In Kenya, care for older and vulnerable adults is provided through private caregiving agencies, home-based care and residential care homes. These settings depend on caregivers and health-care assistants able to respond to an emergency, trained in first aid and CPR.

Caregivers and health-care assistants working in these settings are expected to be trained in first aid and CPR — CPR, bleeding control and basic emergency care — so that staff can act immediately for a resident. First aid and CPR are components of the national TVET-CDACC caregiver qualification, and stand-alone certificates are accepted by private caregiving and home-care employers.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid certificate is the usual way to meet this requirement; it is in addition to the caregiver's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
